WHY WE MAKE CASTILE SOAP

Firstly let talk about the history:)

Castile soap originated in the Castile region of Spain, which is where it gets its name. It was traditionally made with olive oil and has been used for centuries as a gentle and natural soap. Castile soap became particularly popular in the Middle Ages when it was traded extensively throughout Europe.

The original Castile soap was made with a combination of olive oil and sodium hydroxide (lye), which causes a chemical reaction called saponification that turns the oils into soap. Later, other oils such as coconut oil, hemp oil, and jojoba oil were also used to make Castile soap.

Today, Castile soap is made in many different parts of the world, and there are many variations on the traditional recipe.

Why we make and use Castile Soap in our recipes.

At Hopi Hauora we make our own Castile Soap with fair trade Coconut Oil, New Zealand's Hemp Seed Oil and Jojoba Oil. And what are the main benefits?

1.Our Soap does not contain synthetic chemicals or artificial fragrances, making it a great option for people with sensitive skin or those looking to avoid harsh chemicals.

2. It is made with natural ingredients, it is biodegradable and does not harm the environment.

3.Super versatile - it can be used for a wide range of applications, including as a body wash, shampoo, hand soap, household cleaner, laundry detergent, and even pet shampoo. This can make it a cost-effective and efficient choice for many households.

4.Gentle yet effective: Despite its natural ingredients, castile soap is still a powerful cleanser that can effectively remove dirt and grime. It is also gentle on the skin and does not strip the skin of its natural oils.

5.Hypoallergenic: Castile soap is often hypoallergenic, meaning it is less likely to cause allergic reactions or irritation than other types of soap.

DIY TIPS for Castile Soap:

Body wash or hand soap: For a basic body wash or hand soap, you can dilute Castile soap in a ratio of 1:3 (one part Castile soap to three parts water). You can adjust the ratio based on your preference for a thicker or thinner consistency.

Shampoo: For a shampoo, you can dilute Castile soap in a ratio of 1:1 (equal parts Castile soap and water). You may need to adjust the ratio based on your hair type and preference for a thicker or thinner consistency.

Household cleaner: For a household cleaner, you can dilute Castile soap in a ratio of 1:10 (one part Castile soap to ten parts water). You can adjust the ratio based on the level of cleaning power you need for a specific task.

Laundry detergent: For a laundry detergent, you can dilute Castile soap in a ratio of 1:3 (one part Castile soap to three parts water) and add a tablespoon of washing soda and a tablespoon of baking soda. This mixture can be used in place of regular laundry detergent.

Pet shampoo: For a pet shampoo, you can dilute Castile soap in a ratio of 1:10 (one part Castile soap to ten parts water) and add a few drops of essential oils that are safe for pets. This mixture can be used as a gentle and natural shampoo for your furry friend.

These are just general guidelines, and you may need to adjust the ratios based on your personal preferences and needs. Always start with a small amount of Castile soap and gradually add more water until you achieve the desired consistency.
